EID Open Day!

I know EID Open Day 2010 is long over, sorry for the late update.

Anyways.

Welcome to E^3Mobin Ltd!
Promoting our product... (We designed and drew our company T-shirts ourselves. ^^)

In the end, we didn't win but the effort was worth it coz we really had lots of fun, plus the satisfaction of being able to create, reinvent, and promote our product.

Plus, we got a B+ for it.

An acceptable grade, I should think.

A little description about our product - it's actually a robotic trashbin (hence the name RoBBin) with rotating blades to collect rubbish. Here's a video demo of how our product works:

My mansion

Haven't been updating my blog for a long time coz I was too busy enjoying my holidays (you'd think I'd update my blog more often now that exam's over - lol) and since I have been lazing around at home for days on end, there hasn't been much to blog about anyways.

This holiday, however, didn't start like any other.

Thanks to Little Grass who gave me an impossible 3D wooden puzzle, I have kept myself busy for 3 whole nights.

Here are the bits and pieces, plus the half-done mansion:

Trust me, it was FREAKING HARD.

After 3 sleepless nights, about 5 or 6 broken nails, several minor cuts, bruises, and three blisters (one of which was so bad that it broke and bled) on both my hands - yes, it was THAT hard - I finally managed to complete it.

Back view

Side view                                                            Lookit, it even has real staircases inside it!

Anyways, I was thinking that since I still have like 2 more months of holidays, I shall take it to myself to make it a real home by installing lights (going to the electrical shop one of these days to get some wires, batteries, light bulbs, and whatever else you need to make simple circuits - boy am I glad I have at least some basic knowledge on circuits) and building miniature furniture using the left over wood I have.

Wished I could bring it back to NTU - it'd be a nice addition to my room decor. Maybe if I'm lucky enough, I could pack reeeeally light and bring it back as hand-carried luggage.

P.S.: You know what? I think I do have a knack at art stuff. Drawings, handcrafts, etc. Sometimes I feel that my creativity can be expanded so much more. Should make it my career someday if I really enjoy what I do. GAHH what the heck am I doing in the school of Engineering.

P.P.S.: Oh well, it's not that I'm that good at art anyway. That being said, I'm not that good at engineering either. I guess I'm a jack of all trades, master of nothing. =(

The wonderful, wonderful hols.

"When the examiner gives me a question I have never heard of, I give him an answer he has never heard of."
 -A friend of mine-

Am honestly sorry for not updating for the longest time ever. Nevertheless, I should be forgiven this time coz the worst exam of my life - okay, to be fair, every exam is the worst exam of my life - is FINALLY OVER!

For the past week, I have done nothing but play.

Not really.

There was this interview for an internship at ExxonMobil (only one of the largest petroleum traders in the world - remember Esso and Mobil?) - I was so nervous that the night before I barely slept.

But I think I aced it.

(I'm not saying I'm the best candidate ever, nor am I saying that I'm very confident I'll get the job - heck, I know there were many others waaaay more suitable than I am for the job I applied for, and I am aware there is a pretty large chance I may not get it. I'm just saying that I know I did my best out there and I have no regrets about it.)

Holidays are here and hence the lack of mood to blog. Guilt finally got the better of me and here I am again.

Wanna know how near crazy exams pushed me?

Yes, that is how near-crazy we/I got.

Anyways, after the exams, we got even crazier and, as mentioned, I eventually played so hard I forgot I had a blog.

I have the pictures to prove it:

Rephrase: I ate so much I forgot I had a blog.

Ref last pic of lame smiling me posing with two $50 vouchers.

Funny story - I was campaigning for this mask contest, and I won (yes, I know you voted, I appreciate your help, thanks~ !!) two vouchers, each being worth $50. I was craving for good, expensive ice-cream when Kevin and I walked past Haagen Dazs, and I asked the cashier the most stupid thing ever:

"Can I use both vouchers in a single receipt?"

In the end, Kevin and I only managed to eat $65 worth of ice cream. As seen from pictures above, chocolate fondue and mango sorbet ice blended.

To think I so confidently convinced myself I would spend more than $100 on ice-cream.

*I still have a $50 voucher to spend on shopping/food! Whee~~~*

Ref pic of grilled steak with onion rings and chilled pasta salad - we stood in queue for FORTY WHOLE MINUTES FOR THAT MEAL.  Yes, STOOD. IN. QUEUE.

But man, was it so worth the wait. The food was unbelievably cheap (as cheap as it gets for really tasty food) - only $32 and we were filled with the most mouth-watering western food ever.

Best onion rings I have ever had.

Too bad I don't remember the name of the restaurant. Not that I'm going back there anytime soon - to stand 40 whole minutes just for a meal? This is one of those things I'd do only once, and then it's just "ah... I remember there was a time when I stupidly stood in queue for 40 whole minutes for a meal... Those were the good ol' days."

SPECIAL THANKS TO GRASSIES FOR GIVING ME A "SURPRISE" BIRTHDAY!!

(Although it wasn't really a surprise anymore coz Kevin carelessly dropped hints. LOL)

AWWW~ My birthday cake!

Happy family~ (I think I look kinda cute in this)

HAPPY 1 YEAR 7 MONTHS ^^

Losing stuff. Sometimes it matters for the right reasons.

“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.”
-Oscar Wild-

You know how sometimes something may seem like it isn't a big deal until you lose it, and then you realize how the many small things in your life actually matters much more than you think?

Sometimes, the Chinese saying "Old don't go, new won't come" doesn't seem to apply.

*I'm listening to 21 Guns by Green Day as I'm typing this. No point, just a random comment.*

I'm not talking about stuff like your latest state-of-the-art cellphone, your Macbook or your iPod.

*Which reminds me. Should I get an iPod classic, or an iPod Touch? The iPod Touch is pretty much to me like "been there, done that" kinda thing so I was thinking of trying something new, but on the other hand it's like I've been with an iTouch for such a long time I still can't get used to not owning one.*

Or your iPad.

*Seriously, who needs an iPad when they can just get a tablet? You don't need an iPad to show that you're rich. With time, people can eventually tell. Duh.*

I'm talking about the littler stuff. The stuff that matters to nobody else but you.

An old pen you used since primary school, a stuffed animal, a RM50 colorless screen cellphone from 15 years ago.

Which then might prompts some to ask "So, if something is expensive, it can't be labeled as 'the littler stuff'?"

Well, yes you can.

Like how I'm still in moaning for my iPod Touch even after I 'drowned' it about a month ago.

*By ACCIDENT.*

It is sometimes hard to determine whether something of utmost importance to you is really because if its sentimental value, or just for the mere fact that you've spent lots and lots of money on it.

Here are two tips which might help you decide:

1. When you lose/break something, the first thing that comes to your mind is "Damn, I loved that thing! I could never live without it!" rather than "Damn, that thing cost me a fortune! I'll never save up enough money to get a new one."

2. You find it hard to get over it, and you still miss your old item, even when you've got yourself a newer, better one.

I guess you could feel sad after losing something expensive, but it's a whole other feeling to lose something which is more important to you than the cash you paid for it. It's like... a less painful version of losing a loved one.

Losing something expensive would be more like... a less painful version of getting mugged. Or maybe worse.

*Lol I think I'm pretty good at analogies.*

Anyway. My point is, my cute purple puppy hairpin broke. I loved that one. =(

Drumroll, please.

Future Ted: Kids, I'm going to tell you an incredible story, the story of how I met your mother.
Ted's Son: Are we being punished or something?

Future Ted: No.

Ted's Daughter: Dad, is this gonna take a while?
Future Ted: Yes. Twenty-five years ago, before I was Dad, I had this whole other life...

-How I Met Your Mother, Season 1, Episode 1-

So I've just started watching the first season of How I Met Your Mother.

I know, I know. I'm left behind. I'll catch up, so no spoiler comments, please!

Just finished the episode where Ted meets this wonderful girl named Victoria at his friend's wedding, where they hit it off immediately.

*Okay, this is gonna get mushy. You were warned.*

No names, no numbers. No strings attached, no expectations, just pure companionship, just for the night.

Watching this episode gives me this utterly indescribable feeling. Like... like... I can somehow relate to it.

The farewell was... almost so beautiful it made me want to cry.

*But I didn't. So stop sniggering.*

"There will always be this one bad memory I will have from this night. You walking out that door."

"Close your eyes, and count to five."

Just like that, she was gone.

I guess the reason I was so attracted to this episode was the feeling of having this beautiful memory where you can always look back and think, "It wasn't The One, but there will always be a part of me that remains there."

You'll never know for sure if the other person will ever remember you, but maybe twenty years from now, married maybe, even having kids of your own, when you're just strolling, taking a bath, just letting your mind escape just for a moment from your current life. Then, as you sit alone, this one buried memory resurfaces and before you know it, you're thinking of him/her.

That night. The memories.

Just for that moment. You forget yourself, you forget who you are. You're back. Single, young, and having this great companion by your side, one whom you could almost say you could *cough* love.

(I hereby permit you to sue me for using the L word in such a careless manner. Sorry. Couldn't find a better word for it.)

Then, it all fades away and you're back to reality.

Maybe it's your kids calling for their bedtime story. Maybe it's your significant other cooing for you. Maybe you're done with your bath, maybe you've strolled to the end of the road.

Whatever it is, you know where you belong. You'll be thankful for the people around you, and just smile at the memories past coz that's what it is.

Just another memory.

*Oh, gawd. What am I doing here, when I'm supposed to be studying for my exam?*

I'm all grown up. Now, what?

I was never good at making lemonade so when life gives me lemons, I just throw 'em right back.
-Rae-

You know those stages in life when you experience changes?

What's that word for it... uhh...

Growing up?

Yep, that's the word.

I remember my first day of kindergarten. Only vaguely, but I think it counts.

When my baby teeth started falling out, grown-ups decided to tease me by saying my teeth were dropping coz I was eating too much candy. People from church, parents' friends, even my school teacher.

I was really annoyed back then. I had to keep explaining to them that it's not because of my over-consumption of sweet stuff.

You know how kids are always fed with the mentality that only naughty children eat too much sweets. Ugh. Stupid brain-washing adults. Don't they know kids might take it way too seriously? Gosh, I hope I won't be like that when I'm *officially* an adult (ONE MORE YEAR TO GO!!).

Anyway. So being the innocent kid I was, I didn't want adults to think that my teeth were falling out because I ate too many sweets; but when I denied it, they'd start to ask "Well, if you're not eating too much candy, why are you losing your teeth?"

Of course, being the innocent, logical kid I was, I'd reply "My baby teeth are falling out to make place for my adult teeth to grow," and they'd reply "Bah!! There's no such thing as teeth falling out! You must have been a very naughty girl to be eating so much candy."

Of course, I now know that they were just kidding - but back then, I was just really, really pissed.

*I'm not a bad girl!! I don't eat candy!!! My teeth are just falling out because I'm growing up!!!*

I digress.

Anyways.

First day of school, first day your baby teeth start dropping out, first day your mum brings you bra-shopping. First day your vagina drips blood (pardon the crudeness), the first day your heart stops beating because of a member of the opposite sex.

Remember?

As you grow older, you start to realize that you're getting more and more used to life, and because there's no more "changes" to look forward to (except for menopause - lols okay I'll stop being pessimistic and crude), sometimes, even at your early twenties, you'll start to think:

"Shit, this is it. I'm done growing up. Whatever happened to the past 20 years?"

Not to worry, Rachel the wise has come up with a comforting line:

"Don't worry. Your body has one more change coming. Wisdom teeth."

Unfortunately for me, my wisdom teeth are biting into my gums and they're killing me.

=(

Exams are in a week's time.

*double frowney.*

(Well I figured there's a smiley, why not a frowney?)

I thought this was gonna be a two-line post or something; I thought I'd just announce that I'm going to stop blogging for a while till my exams are over, but I guess I blabbered a tad too much huh?

Anyways. Not coming back till exams' over.

Toodles.

Sorry, but I don't feel the pain. IN YOUR FACE.

If fate wants to play a game of "lets see how much possessions you can break/lose before losing your mind", BRING IT ON.
-Rae on Twitter-

I managed to beat my record again.

Today, I found that having broken/lost a handful of *very* expensive and valuable possessions (namely, my broken/lost phone, iPod, jacket, EZ-Link, and room card key)
in a month isn't enough, apparently. I can't hear anything on the right side of my RM180 Sony earphones. FML.

Life is so much more fun when you realize you're starting to get so used to having your expensive stuff broken/lost that you don't feel the pain anymore.

Tuesday, 6 April 2010

and i haven't even started saying...oh, shit.

One "oh shit" can erase a thousand attaboys.”
-Scott Adams-

In just a month's time, I have accomplished the following:

1. Broken my phone beyond repair.
2. Lost my EZ-Link card along with $50 inside.
3. Broken my iPod Touch beyond repair.
4. Lost my room key, which cost a penalty of $50 for a new replacement.
5. Lost my RM 200++ sweater I bought from Disney Land.

I'll bet you a 100 bucks you can't beat my record.

Epic FML.

Attaboy.

Pwned.

Forgive, O Lord, my little jokes on Thee,
And I'll forgive Thy great big one on me.
~Robert Frost, "Cluster of Faith," 1962

I haven't been fooled in so long. At least not to the extent where I SERIOUSLY believed it.

Pet Society did it.

For a moment I was like "omg they're finally turning Pet Society into 3D!"
